Spoiler warning — this page names the Vietnam resort setting, the three Q-Trak targets and the fact that the mission turns into a rescue. It is one of the more story-forward missions, so if you want the plot cold, take the target routes and collectible locations and skip the intro and FAQ.

007 First Light Time to DieMission Guide

A tropical clifftop resort at golden hour — a timber lodge above an infinity pool ringed by palms — the Vietnamese setting of the 007 First Light Time to Die mission.
Official · IO Interactive

007 First Light Time to Die is the fourteenth main mission and the game's open-ended Vietnam set-piece: Bond arrives alone at a luxury island resort known as The Pearl and is handed one objective — plant a Q-Trak tracking device on three guests. Despite the ominous title, this is not an assassination job. The three 'targets' — Theresa Lorca, Ramon Hernandez and Ellis White — are people Bond tags so MI6 can monitor their location and vitals for 24 hours, and the mission then turns on its head when Damien's people move on them and Bond has to try to save at least one. That gap between what the name 'Time to Die' implies and what you actually do is the single thing most players land on this page to settle, so we say it plainly up front.

This 007 First Light Time to Die guide puts the whole resort job on one page instead of the four or five separate articles it is usually split across. The three Q-Trak targets are mapped as how-to cards — how to reach each one and which challenge is tied to them — followed by all 11 collectible locations and the full challenge list, split into what multiple guides confirm versus what only one source names. It is a sandbox mission in the studio's Hitman tradition, so the order is yours; we suggest one, but every approach counts. (One housekeeping note answered below: some sites label this 'Chapter 8' and others 'Chapter 14' — it is the 14th entry in the in-game chapter select, and the lower number comes from guides that count only the nine main missions and drop the interludes.)

007 First Light The Three Q-Trak Targets

The heart of the Time to Die mission is planting a Q-Trak on each of three resort guests. The order is completely flexible — pick them off however you like. To be clear: you are tracking these people, not killing them, and each Q-Trak goes into a drink or is planted in a brief scripted scene. Here is how to reach all three and the challenge tied to each.

Ellis White — Ocean View Bar

Q-Trak in a Tequila Slammer

Ellis White is holding court at the Ocean View Bar. The clean route in is to arrive as a party guest, get behind the service, and lace his drink rather than confront him.

  1. Pick up a party invitation/flyer so you can walk into the bar area as a guest (this is the Party Crasher challenge).
  2. Slip into the bar's storage — hacking the glass roof above the pool gets you in over the staff — and lift the keycard from the cabinet (Key Master).
  3. Mix the Q-Trak into a Tequila Slammer and serve it to Ellis; he drinks it down and the tracker is live for 24 hours.

Challenges here: Party Crasher, Key Master, and Blanc the Brut (remove the Velvet Lantern bartender).

Ramon Hernandez — Hung Villa

Q-Trak as the yoga instructor

Eavesdrop at the resort counter and you'll learn Ramon Hernandez is staying at the Hung Villa, where a private yoga session is booked. Take the instructor's place and hand him a spiked drink.

  1. Retrieve Ramon's blue yoga mat from the Tranquility Cave storage room — Dart-Phone a staff member to get the key (and you can swap the cave music for the Zen No More challenge).
  2. Pose as the yoga instructor to reach him inside the Hung Villa (Yogi).
  3. Hand Ramon the drink with the Q-Trak; he agrees and drinks it. Optional approaches let you take down his security from the roof window (Bathroom Bomb) or confront him undetected (The Quiet Man).

Challenges here: Yogi, Zen No More, Bathroom Bomb, The Quiet Man.

Theresa Lorca — Serenity Space

Q-Trak poolside in the spa

Theresa Lorca, the geneticist behind the resort's algae project, is up at the Serenity Space spa — the easiest of the three to reach. Staff block the normal entrance, so you climb in. (Full character detail lives on her dossier page.)

  1. From the bar, take the front stairs down, continue right, and climb the rock beside the direction display to get above the staff who block the spa entrance.
  2. Doing it by this climb rather than waiting for the spa to clear is the Pool Inspector challenge; reaching her completely unseen is Wraith.
  3. At the poolside, hack a nearby fan to scatter her algae documents, open the conversation, and slip the Q-Trak into her drink.

Challenges here: Pool Inspector and Wraith.

Honest note — After all three are tagged, Damien's team moves on the guests and the mission becomes a rescue — the wine-cellar 'save Ellis' beat (Phantom, Unlicensed to Kill) and the quarry shootout with Greenway are the back half.

Time to Die Mission Challenges & Rewards

Clearing every challenge in the 007 First Light Time to Die mission unlocks the Resort Casual Outfit. There are 24 in total, but the guides only name 23 of them uniquely — so we publish the count as 24 with a flag and list the 23 named tasks, split into ones multiple guides confirm and ones a single guide names. Several of these openly contradict each other (silent versus loud, kill versus spare), so plan on two or three runs to sweep them all.

Time to Die Mission FAQ

What is the Time to Die mission in 007 First Light?

[ + ]

007 First Light Time to Die is the fourteenth main mission, set at a Vietnamese island resort called The Pearl. Bond's job is to plant a Q-Trak tracking device on three guests — Theresa Lorca, Ramon Hernandez and Ellis White — so MI6 can monitor them. Despite the title it is not an assassination mission; after the trackers are placed it turns into a rescue.

Is Time to Die chapter 8 or chapter 14?

[ + ]

It is the 14th entry in the in-game chapter select, which is why our guide and several others call it Chapter 14. The 'Chapter 8' you see on some sites comes from guides that count only the nine main (gameplay) missions and leave out the eight shorter interludes — under that scheme Time to Die is the 8th main mission. Same mission, two ways of counting.

Do you kill Theresa Lorca, Ramon Hernandez and Ellis White?

[ + ]

No. In Time to Die you plant a Q-Trak on each of the three targets to track their location and vitals for 24 hours — Bond does not assassinate them. The mission then flips: Damien's team moves on the guests and Bond has to try to save at least one of them, which is what challenges like 'Unlicensed to Kill' (save Ellis without killing the Webb mercenaries) reward.

How do you reach Theresa Lorca in Time to Die?

[ + ]

Lorca is at the Serenity Space spa, and the staff block the normal entrance. From the bar, take the front stairs down, head right, and climb the rock beside the direction display to get above them. Reaching her by that climb is the 'Pool Inspector' challenge, and doing it completely undetected is 'Wraith'. At the pool you hack a fan to scatter her documents, then slip the Q-Trak into her drink.

Are there any safe or keypad codes in Time to Die?

[ + ]

No — unlike Knightfall or All the Time in the World, the Time to Die mission has no safe combination or keypad code. If you searched for a 'Time to Die code', the keys you actually need are physical: the Tranquility Cave storage key (Dart-Phone a staff member) for Ramon's yoga mat and the bar storage keycard for Ellis.

How many collectibles are in Time to Die?

[ + ]

There are 11 collectibles in the 007 First Light Time to Die mission: seven playing cards and intel items plus a Vietnam postcard, a Diving Watch memento and a Tarot Deck legacy item, spread from your own villa through the spa, the bars and Ramon's villa. Older trackers listed 9–10; the current itemised walkthroughs all agree on 11, so we treat 11 as the firm count.

How many challenges does Time to Die have and what is the reward?

[ + ]

Time to Die has 24 challenges, though guides only name 23 of them uniquely. Completing all of them unlocks the Resort Casual Outfit. Because several challenges contradict each other — silent versus loud, sparing versus killing — you will need two or three runs of the mission to clear the whole set.

What order should you plant the Q-Traks?

[ + ]

Any order works — Time to Die is a sandbox mission, so Lorca, Hernandez and White can be tagged in whatever sequence you like. Lorca at the Serenity Space is generally the easiest to reach, Ramon needs the yoga-instructor disguise at the Hung Villa, and Ellis is tagged at the Ocean View Bar via a stolen party invite.
